data-src=\"http:\/\/mtffoxnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/iStock-1171440648.jpg\"><\/h4>\n<h4>Households are throwing away over one billion items every year that could be recycled but are being incinerated or sent to landfill, according to WRAP.<\/h4>\n<p>WRAP (Waste &amp; Resources Action Programme) released the statistics ahead of Recycle Week (14-20 October).<\/p>\n<p>According to the statistics, Britain\u2019s most binned items included<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>7.4 million yoghurt pots.<\/li>\n<li>845 million\u00a0cleaning product bottles.<\/li>\n<li>526 million\u00a0aerosols.<\/li>\n<li>6 million\u00a0aftershave and perfume bottles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Additional research by Recycle Now found that while 88% of the UK regularly recycle, 79% put one or more items into the bin that could have been\u00a0recycled.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>UK household recycling rates <a href=\"https:\/\/www.circularonline.co.uk\/news\/household-recycling-rates-remain-at-44-in-the-uk\/\">remained at 44% in 2022, the same rate as in 2021<\/a>, according to figures released by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the findings, Circular Economy Minister Mary Creagh, said: \u201cWith recycling rates falling and over one billion recyclable items binned annually, we have a huge task ahead to create the zero-waste society we all want to see.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year\u2019s Recycle Week, we can all do our bit by rescuing more rubbish from the bin and recycling it instead.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s also why this government will move towards a circular economy where we keep our resources in use for longer, waste is reduced, and the path to net zero is accelerated.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Recycle Week<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-332717 size-large alignright lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/mtffoxnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/WRAP-2.png\">On Monday, Invictus games athlete and Recycle Week Ambassador JJ Chalmers, WRAP CEO Harriet Lamb and a crew of Recycle Week characters visited 10 Downing Street to deliver an open letter to Keir Starmer, which asked for the PM and the public\u2019s help to increase recycling.<\/p>\n<p>The Recycle Week characters include\u00a0Dee Dee\u00a0the deodorant,\u00a0Rey\u00a0the plastic trigger spray,\u00a0Yogi\u00a0the yoghurt pot,\u00a0Fitz\u00a0the perfume bottle and\u00a0Hube\u00a0the toilet roll tube.<\/p>\n<p>Harriet Lamb, WRAP CEO, said:\u00a0\u201cToo often we\u2019re putting goods such as deodorant cans, yogurt pots or cleaning bottles in the rubbish when they can in fact be recycled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe more items we rescue from the main bin, the less goes to landfill and incineration, the more we reduce our impact on the climate.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis Recycle Week we urge every household, business, school and organisation to help rescue more items from the rubbish bin so that we can achieve a world where \u2018landfill\u2019 becomes little more than a memory, where we are recycling everything possible \u2013 and of course reducing the amount we use in the first place.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a
